Bruce is a retired attorney and Oakland native. He had help with chores, but he missed good conversation. And his 18-year-old dog, Arco, needed more attention than he could give.
Nayaab was moving from Sacramento to start a master's in social work. She needed an affordable place to live and flexible work hours.
JoeyCo introduced them. Nayaab pays rent. Bruce pays her an hourly wage to help around the house.
She admits it sounded too good to be true. After a trial meeting, they both said yes.
Now they cook together, build Legos, and explore the city. Nayaab helps with Arco, so Bruce did not have to give him up.
It's not for everyone. Bruce says the key is "being open to accepting a new way of life."
