Sunny’s Bio
Meet Sunny
Sunny is a , outgoing, and adventurous 34-year-old piano and Chinese teacher who recently returned to the Bay Area after living in Los Angeles. Originally from China, Sunny brings a unique combination of professional experience, education, music, teaching, and a genuine enthusiasm for connecting with people. She is currently based in San Jose and is especially excited about finding a JoeyCo Host near the coast, with Pacifica at the top of her list.
Sunny began her professional career after earning her bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting, working as both an accountant and project manager before realizing that education and music were where her heart truly belonged. She went on to pursue a Master’s in Education at Boston University and later studied music at Pasadena City College while living in Southern California. Today, she teaches both piano and Chinese and enjoys helping students develop confidence and a love of learning.
Music is a particularly important part of Sunny’s life. She currently teaches private piano students and is actively involved in the local music community. Her classical piano training has an interesting history—through her professors, she traces her musical teaching lineage back eight generations to Beethoven. She is also able to teach both Western and Chinese musical notation, giving her an especially interesting perspective as an educator and musician.
Sunny’s interests extend well beyond music. She has significant experience working as a camp counselor and outdoor activity instructor, including with Yosemite Family Camp and San Jose Family Camp. She has helped teach and lead activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, and mountain biking. In her own time, she loves swimming, sailing, surfing, diving, hiking, and spending time near the ocean.
Sunny also has previous experience with live-in help exchange arrangements, having lived with Hosts in both Oregon and North Carolina. Those experiences are part of what attracted her to JoeyCo. She likes the idea of living somewhere where there is a meaningful exchange and relationship rather than simply renting a room. She values open communication around schedules, cooking, cleanliness, quiet hours, and household expectations, and she hopes to develop a genuine and sociable relationship with her Host.
Around the home, Sunny is comfortable pitching in and being proactive. She can assist with meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands, household organization, technology, driving, and general day-to-day support. Her current landlord has described her as dependable and proactive, noting that she notices things that need to be done around the home and helps without always needing to be asked.
Her teaching schedule is also quite flexible. She currently has a regular commitment with a student on Mondays but otherwise has the ability to adapt much of her schedule around the needs and routines of a Host. Sunny has a valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record and is fully authorized to work in the United States. While she does not currently own a vehicle, she is open to getting one if her placement requires regular driving.
Most importantly, Sunny is looking for more than a place to live. She is excited about finding a Host she can get to know, spend time with, and meaningfully contribute to their household. She brings an interesting mix of education, music, cultural experience, outdoor adventure, practical household support, and companionship and would especially enjoy a Host who appreciates an engaged and social Joey.
Sunny is eager to find the right match and hopes to make the Bay Area—and ideally a community close to the coast—her next home.
